On the verge of spring

It has been a long winter for me. Only now that I have returned to Florence do I feel as if spring is not that far away. In Paris, it snowed just a few days after the first sunny Saturday afternoon. I thought that one day marked the beginning of spring, but it was not. I was pleased to arrive in Florence to see the sun shining overhead and flower buds on trees. I am once again hopeful that spring is finally on its way.

Even though the distance between Florence and Paris isn’t that great, the climates are quite different. I didn’t realize how grey the skies in Paris were compared to Florence until I started spending more time there. In Florence, I feel as if the sun eventually reappears and that bad weather just can’t persist. In Paris, however, many days went by before I could catch a glimpse of the sun.

I’m pleased to see the sun poking through the clouds this morning. I enjoy listening to the water flowing in the Arno and breathing in my beloved city’s sweet air. It’s refreshing to be in Florence even if only for a short while. It’s almost as if I need the time here to get recharged.

I walked to the Piazza della Signoria this evening and stood in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. I let my eyes guide my body to twirl around in the piazza. I am always amazed at the splendor of this city. I am sometimes overwhelmed that a city this small can contain so much.

I don’t know what the days here will bring me, but I am appreciative of the time I get to spend in Florence. Even if the cold weather is not completely behind us, the hint of spring that I observe fills me with hope and joy.
