This morning it was raining when I woke up. I thought it was going to be a melancholic day, but then within a few hours, the sky cleared up and the sun came out. I decided to seize the day while the sun was out. I'd been staying at home a lot since Dave left, not really wanting to or needing to go out.
I called Simone (our landlord) and asked him if I could come and drop off the rent money at his restaurant. He invited me to come and eat with him and his staff, so I happily walked down to Santo Spirito for my favorite dish, linguine alle vongole (linguine with clams).
I walked through Piazza Repubblica and then over Ponte Vecchio toward Piazza Pitti. And,then I took a small side street to Santo Spirito. I was surprised by all the tourists outside walking around and taking in Florence. I had to dodge a few cameras so as not to be a part of the scenery. It's getting harder and harder with so many people all over and a few times, I'm sure I ended up smack in the middle of a few.
After the delicious dinner, I walked along the Arno the whole way home. From Ponte S. Trinità to Ponte alle Grazie. It was great to walk along the river where things seem quieter with the low Florentine hills just on the other side behind the buildings. I was looking at the many apartments whose windows were all wide open with the lights on. How fortunate to live along the river. Maybe our next apartment in Florence will one day be above the river as well.
