After coming back from Thailand, I had secretly hoped that the weather would be warmer when we returned to Florence. I was thinking that by the middle of April, the temperatures would be a bit higher here, but lately it's been only about 10° to 13°C (50° to 56°F).
Every time I go into a shop to talk to anyone, almost all small talk focused on the weather. Today when I saw the ortolano (greengrocer), he said, "Non ce la faccio più con questo tempo! Basta! (I can't take this weather any more! Enough!)"
I couldn't agree with him more: winter seems to be dragging on and on. I was fortunate enough to go to a hotter climate for a few weeks and got a break from the cold, but I can't wait for the weather to heat up. And, the worst part is that not only is it cold, but it's also rainy.
Last Sunday, my suocera (mother-in-law) said, "Se piove per i quattro aprilanti, piove per quaranta giorni duranti. (If it rains for the first days of April, it'll rain for forty days.)"
We weren't here in the beginning of April and I was afraid to ask her if it rained then. I think that if she said it, it must have been raining. Now I just hope that it won't continue raining through the end of the month and into May!
