The joys of being in Florence

The time I spend at home in Florence fills me with so much joy. While I enjoy my time in France, I am always so happy to return to my beloved city. The minute I walked into my apartment on Wednesday, my body relaxed and I felt a wave of joy ripple through me as I looked out onto the Arno. The words that inspired me to move to Florence the first time always come back to me when I return, “You are home.”

Living in Florence :: The joys of being in Florence

When I left Paris Wednesday afternoon, it was raining. We had a couple of sunny days, but then it seemed that winter wanted to have one last hoorah before departing for a few months. I dislike complaining about the weather because it’s something I can’t change and therefore must just accept. Nonetheless, I was tickled pink to see the blue skies and a blazing sun.

Since I’ve been back, I have been catching up with friends and just taking in the city. I generally don’t like making lists, but here are a few things that fill me with joy when I’m in my beloved city:
Bumping into people I know in the street.
Strolling along the Arno.
Listening to the church bells ring.
Admiring the Arno as it changes color throughout the day.
Enjoying the warm evenings.
Chatting with friends in a piazza at night.
Sitting on a terrace to have a drink.
Walking by my favorite monuments.
Appreciating the nature in and around the city.

My list could go on and on. Florence is a city that melts my heart again and again. I am so inspired by the beauty (constructed and natural) that I come in contact with throughout the day and night.

I think I would be lost without Florence. It is the one place in the world where I am regenerated and revitalized. It’s almost as if my head stops directing me so that my heart can take over. Florence’s energy reminds me that my heart is king and that my only goal should be to listen only to my heart and to act from it.
