On Florence from the Heart, Lisa McGarry has published an excerpt of her book Piazzas of Florence. I'm fortunate enough to be friends with Lisa and have enjoyed our conversations about Florence. One of her first questions to me was, "What is your favorite piazza in Florence?" I remember that I blurted out, "Santa Croce." She told me that hers was Santo Spirito, so I'm even happier that the excerpt of her book that she chose is about her favorite piazza in Florence.
I read Lisa's book and was so happy when I found out that she was going to be at a local bookshop to talk about her book. I couldn't wait to meet her because I enjoyed her book so much. She discussed many of the details of the piazzas in Florence that I didn't know, and described things in such detail that I truly felt as if I were visiting the piazza for the first time.
After Lisa and I met last year at her book signing, we got together shortly after for a caffè to talk some more. We discussed our favorite spots, and what we love about the city. I was so happy to have met a person who loves and appreciates Florence as much as I do.
The excerpt about Piazza Santo Spirito is one of my favorites in her book because it is the piazza that I enjoy, but don't know that well. I always walk through it and visit the church when I can, but it remains a special piazza for me that I am still slowly discovering and appreciating.
